A 16-year-old Flagler High School was killed when he rolled his truck off a Weld County road Saturday afternoon, the Colorado State Patrol said Tuesday.

Lance Rodwell, a junior on the rural school’s 8-man football team, was thrown from his Ford Ranger pickup as it rolled twice, said Trooper Nate Reed.

Drugs and alcohol aren’t suspected, but the speed of the truck is still being investigated, he said.

Investigators think Rodwell ran off one side of the road, overcorrected and slid sideways across the road before the vehicle flipped.

The accident happened at 3:45 p.m. Saturday on Weld County Road O.
