NEW YORK — Reggie Bush is expected to be stripped of his 2005 Heisman Trophy by the end of the month, Yahoo! Sports reported Tuesday.

The former Southern Cal running back would become the first player in the 75-year history of the award to have the Heisman Trophy taken away. The report also said the award would be left vacant for 2005.

“I can tell you the Heisman Trophy Trust has made no decision regarding the Reggie Bush situation,” said Robert Whalen, executive director of the Heisman Trophy Trust.

The NCAA found major violations in USC’s football program and levied serious sanctions against the school in June.

Yahoo! Sports cited two anonymous sources close to the Heisman Trophy Trust who say the group’s investigation is almost complete and would agree with the NCAA’s finding that Bush was ineligible during the 2005 season.

Ingram remains sidelined

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama tailback Mark Ingram didn’t practice because of a left knee injury that could keep the Heisman Trophy winner out of Saturday night’s game against Penn State.

His replacement, Trent Richardson, said Ingram did watch some of practice from the sideline. He isn’t giving up on the junior returning Saturday night.

“I don’t know when he’ll be back, but hopefully it’ll be for Saturday,” he said. “We’re better with him in there.”

Cardinal loses Toilolo

STANFORD, Calif. — Stanford tight end Levine Toilolo will miss the rest of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Toilolo was hurt during the second play of Saturday’s victory over Sacramento State. He caught a 27-yard pass from Andrew Luck and was hit with a helmet to his knee.

Fifth-year senior Konrad Reuland, a transfer from Notre Dame, or junior Coby Fleener likely will take his spot.

Footnotes.

Oregon and LSU will play at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Sept. 3, 2011.

• Cal Poly and Cal Davis are joining the Big Sky Conference as football-only schools, a move that could lead to a 12-team conference. A timeline for the move has not been set.
