Seth Smith has not taken off as well offensively as hoped following the release of outfielder Brad Hawpe. Smith had just 16 hits in his last 84 at-bats. Smith reached on a fielding error by the Reds’ Brandon Phillips and scored on a hit-and-run play as Miguel Olivo doubled into the left-center gap.

Carlos Gonzalez plays left field at Coors Field because of his range — the Broncos could scrimmage between the center fielder and the left-field line. CarGo erased Phillips at second base with a throw in the fifth inning, saving a run.
Clemente nominee.
Troy Tulowitzki received the Rockies’ nomination for the Roberto Clemente Award and called it an honor. The Clemente Award salutes community service and on-field excellence.
