A steam locomotive billed as the world’s largest will arrive Tuesday in Denver, pulling the mile-long Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus caravan.
Union Pacific Railroad’s Challenger No. 3985 will make the trip to Denver with the circus from Speer, Wyo., to celebrate railroad heritage. The 65-car train will weigh in at more than 6,000 tons, hauling international circus performers, exotic animals and all the equipment for the Denver show, set for Thursday through Oct. 10.
At 10 a.m. Tuesday, the train is expected to arrive at York Street and East 47th Avenue near the Denver Coliseum.
At 1:30 p.m., animals will be paraded from 44th Street and Brighton Boulevard to the coliseum.
The circus is at 7 p.m. each weeknight, with three shows on the weekends at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
From Denver, the train will take the circus on a 2,200-mile, 17-day tour that ends in Sedalia, Mo. The Denver Post
