Keenan Britton was electric, rushing for 213 yards and two touchdowns to lead Class 4A Falcon to a 26-9 win over Mesa Ridge.

Britton scored twice as the Falcons (5-0) used a 17-point second quarter to build a nine-point halftime lead and never let the Grizzlies (4-1) threaten after that. They limited Phillip Rhodes to 132 yards on 25 carries — 68 yards below the average for the senior, who ran for 2,100 yards a year ago.

The Bruins rebounded from back-to- back losses to Mullen and Arvada West by a combined 101-16 margin by building a 24-7 halftime lead and holding on to win their league opener at Legacy Stadium. Hunter Burton rushed for 95 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Eric Pettis added 68 yards and a touchdown on the ground for Cherry Creek (3-2 overall). Grandview (3-2) rallied behind the passing of Jordan Schlehuber, who was 22-of-42 for 318 yards and two touchdowns.

Columbine 31, Chatfield 24 (OT).

Cameron McDondle’s 7-yard touchdown run — his fourth of the game — lifted the fifth-ranked Rebels in the Big 6 League opener for both teams at Jefferson County Stadium. Chatfield, which trailed 14-0 early, sent the game into overtime on quarterback Anthony Hoehler’s 3-yard run with 21 seconds left in regulation. Hoehler tried to answer McDondle’s final touchdown but threw three incompletions on the Chargers’ possession in overtime. McDondle finished with 203 yards rushing on 30 carries for Columbine (5-0).

Grand Junction 21, Fountain-Fort Carson 20.

The Tigers scored two touchdowns in the final six minutes, capped by Sean Rubalcaba’s 20-yard pass to Justin Whiting, to hand 5A’s 10th-ranked Trojans their second straight loss in a nonleague game at Fountain-Fort Carson. Tyler Winder, who previously scored on a 1-yard run, added the game-winning extra- point kick. Grand Junction (4-1) won its fourth straight. The Trojans, who lost last week to Pine Creek, ranked No. 1 in 4A, fell to 3-2 but got 151 yards rushing by Chris Davis.
