A man who left his 5-month-old child alone in a crib for hours while he went out drinking was sentenced to prison Wednesday for the infant’s death.
Joseph Trujillo, 24, received a 12-year prison term for the death of Adrian Trujillo, according to the Jefferson County district attorney’s office.
On Jan. 20, Trujillo left Adrian home alone while he went to a bar in Golden. He left the baby on a bed, surrounded by pillows and soft bedding, with a bottle propped on his chest, according to the DA’s news release and court documents.
Prosecutors believe Adrian was alone for seven to eight hours. When Trujillo finally returned, his child was dead.
He was the baby’s primary caregiver at the time, while the baby’s mother was in the Army, stationed in Kansas.
On Sept. 28, Trujillo pleaded guilty to felony child abuse resulting in death. Kieran Nicholson, The Denver Post
