DENVER—A plaza on the Denver Justice Center Campus has been dedicated in honor of Dale Tooley, who was the Denver district attorney from 1973 to 1983.

Mayor John Hickenlooper, Gov. Bill Ritter and the late Tooley’s son, Keith Tooley, were among those at the dedication ceremony Wednesday. The Tooley Plaza is between the Lindsey-Flanigan Courthouse and Van Cise-Simonet Detention Center.

Tooley was a Colorado native who attended the University of Colorado. He spearheaded Colorado’s first domestic violence unit and created such programs as juvenile diversion, rape prevention and neighborhood watches. Tooley also established standards for treatment of victims and witnesses.

He died in 1985.
