RAWLINS, Wyo.—Over 300 wild horses have been corralled during a large roundup in southwest Wyoming.

The Bureau of Land Management roundup started Sunday in the Adobe Town and Salt Wells Creek herd management areas, near Rock Springs and Rawlins. The agency is using helicopters to gather the horses into traps.

One horse has died so far in the roundup, which could last into November.

A smaller roundup is also under way in northwestern Colorado over the objections of animal advocacy groups. The BLM plans to remove 140 horses it says have moved outside of public land designated for them.

Eighteen horses have been gathered there since Monday. None have died.

Those which are not sold or adopted will be taken to long-term pastures in the Midwest.
