A climber on Taylor Glacier fell to his death Saturday, the fifth fatal fall in Rocky Mountain National Park this year.

The 54-year-old Colorado resident was with two other climbers when he fell about 350 feet about 11:30 a.m., taking the group’s rope with him, according to park officials. The other climbers anchored themselves in place just below the ridgeline between Taylor Peak and Powell Peak until help arrived.

Park rangers reached the man’s body late this afternoon and will remain in that area until the body can be recovered Sunday.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. The area is steep and treacherous in a talus area with loose rocks, ice and snow.
