BOULDER, Colo.—Boulder’s police chief and city manager are asking the public for help in identifying a suspect in the assault of an officer.

Chief Mark Beckner says his department will use all its resources to find the person responsible for the assault Saturday night that left police Sgt. Jim Byfield with a broken elbow, broken clavicle, and a concussion.

Byfield was treated and released from a local hospital. Police say the assault happened while Byfield struggled with a suspect who allegedly slashed the tires of two police vehicles. The suspect ran away after the struggle.

City Manager Jane Brautigan issued a statement Sunday calling the assault “outrageous.”
