It’s always fun between the Rebels and the Bears of Jeffco. . . . After two overtime victories, Columbine got dominant offensive line play as the Rebels crushed Arapahoe 48-27. . . . Classic Columbine: The Rebels are averaging only two receptions per game, and no player has more than three on the season. . . . Jack Karger scored three of the usually pass-happy Bears’ four touchdowns in a 28-13 victory over Chatfield last week. It was the Bears’ first victory in the first-year Big 6 League after two losses.
Fruita Monument (2-5) vs. Grand Junction (6-1)

The 5A-4A Southwestern lead is on the line. Both teams are 2-0. . . . Fruita Monument senior Tyler Daniels, his team’s only two-way player, recovered a fumble against Loveland and caught the go-ahead touchdown pass in a 10-7 victory over the 4A Indians. . . . Wildcats coach Shawn Marsh was formerly a 12-year man at Grand Junction. . . . The Tigers are ensured of a winning record for the first time since 2007. . . . QB Sean Rubalcaba ran for 229 yards and three TDs and also passed for a TD in a 49-13 pasting of 4A Montrose.
Ralston Valley (7-0) vs. Pomona (5-2)

The winner will clinch at least a tie for the Super 6 title. . . . Ralston Valley, in its first try at 5A, has won 11 regular-season games in a row. . . . A week ago, Ralston Valley earned its best victory, 35-14 over Arvada West, as Jeff Grenfell ran for 147 yards and three touchdowns. Reilly Hauptman added 128 yards and two TDs. . . . Pomona has outscored its opposition only 173-160. . . . The Panthers’ Dylan Carter rushed for two TDs in the second half, one a 74-yard gallop, in a 21-3 victory last week in Boulder against Fairview.
Broomfield (6-1) at Longmont (6-2)

Here’s one of the top rivalries in the next-to-highest class, going back to the days of former coaches Larry Allen (Broomfield) and Gordon Cramer (Longmont). . . . They have split the past four head-to-head meetings, with Longmont taking the past two, including 28-21 in 2009 as the Trojans finished state runners-up. Broomfield beat Longmont 20-15 for the 3A (in a 4A system) championship in 1984. . . . Last week, Longmont’s Darian Finley-Garcia and Cameron Herbert each scored two TDs in a 35-0 win over Greeley West.
Silver Creek (5-2) vs. Mountain View (7-0)

Silver Creek has dropped two of its past three games but is only one game off the pace of the rugged 3A Northern. The league’s top four teams entered Week 8 a combined 24-4. . . . Austin Apodaca has completed 61 percent of his passes for 1,408 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also has rushed for 224 yards — and caught a pass. . . . Mountain View, which has had back-to-back semifinals showings, has won 25 regular-season games in a row. . . . Joey Hlushak’s 928 yards rushing lead Mountain View.
Strasburg (4-3) at Brush (5-2)

Strasburg enters the round a game ahead of Brush, Eaton and Platte Valley for the 2A Patriot lead. . . . Sophomore Glen Wallace has thrown 10 TD passes and compiled 1,099 yards for the Indians, who began the season 0-3. . . . Five Strasburg players have broken into triple-digit rushing for balance, led by Jordan Ross’ 368 yards. . . . The Beetdiggers had an interesting stretch — they beat 2A No. 1 Faith Christian, then the next week lost to Wray, which is now No. 1 in 1A. . . . Seven Beetdiggers have at least 105 yards rushing.
Faith Christian (5-2) at The Academy (4-3)

The visiting Eagles, the 2009 state champions, are 76-7 since the 2004 season and have won three times by shutout in 2010, including last week’s 68-0 victory at home against first-year varsity Mead. . . . Oran Tool leads Faith Christian in rushing with 819 yards and eight touchdowns. He’s averaging 12.6 yards per carry. . . . Tied with the Eagles and Bishop Machebeuf for the Flatirons lead, The Academy has won three straight games and dropped three in a row — and outscored the opposition by a combined 119-26.
Yuma (6-1) at Wray (7-0)

It’s for the outright lead of the 1A North Central. Both teams enter 3-0 with one to play, so the winner clinches at least a tie for the title. . . . Wray, behind Brett Vlasin’s 16 touchdown passes and 29 catches by Jarret Cure, has been averaging 38 points per game. . . . Yuma, the defending 1A champion, has won 19 of its past 20 games. . . . Since losing 33-28 to Burlington in Week 4, Yuma has whipped three foes by an aggregate 144-28. . . . Nick Lovell, one of the regulars a year ago, has rushed for 13 touchdowns.
Fleming (7-0) at Idalia (7-0)

Having climbed to No. 2 in the poll a week before the 6-man playoffs, Fleming owns a 396-43 combined scoring edge. . . . Only Briggsdale, which fell 58-15 last week, has come as close as 43 points to the Wildcats. . . . Idalia has won 19 games in a row and piled up 427 points in 2010. . . . Of Landon Shaffer’s 14 completions, half have gone for TDs. . . . Adam Marostica leads the Wolves with 12 rushing touchdowns. He’s averaging 18.6 yards per carry and has six TD receptions.
