WARSAW — Polish parliamentarians on Friday began debating bills regulating in vitro fertilization, despite recent criticism from bishops who threatened to excommunicate lawmakers who supported state funding for the procedure.
The six draft bills on the agenda included proposals that would ban or criminalize the procedure and more liberal proposals that would offer patients state funding for IVF. The procedure is legal in Poland but not regulated.
