LITTLETON, Colo.—A man whose body was found in the trunk of a car parked outside a jail in suburban Denver was shot in the head.

The Arapahoe County coroner’s office didn’t release the victim’s name Monday. Denver’s KUSA-TV reports that court records show he was 80 years old and that the car belonged to him.

Authorities say the body was found Saturday when 40-year-old Robert Johnson went to the Arapahoe County sheriff’s Department Saturday to surrender on an outstanding warrant. They say Johnson made comments that made them think there might be explosives in the car.

Area buildings were evacuated. No explosives were found.

Johnson is being without bail on suspicion of first-degree murder.
