GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.—State wildlife managers are investigating the deaths of at least 84 fish in the Colorado River in western Colorado.
The Colorado Division of Wildlife says the fish kill was reported Tuesday near the point where the Roaring Fork River flows into the Colorado.
Division spokesman Randy Hampton tells the Glenwood Springs Post Independent that wildlife officers are checking water temperatures and testing water quality to try to determine the cause.
Hampton says such fish kills are rare. He says they often relate to a significant warming of the water or some type of toxin.
The dead fish included trout and whitefish.
