DURANGO, Colo.—A Colorado man accused of conspiring to help smuggle machine guns from Iraq into the U.S. for sale and shipment to Mexico will be transferred to Nevada to face federal charges.
Thirty-four-year-old Richard Paul appeared in federal court in Durango on Thursday. The Durango Herald said he appeared distressed and shook his head from side to side as his family watched from the courtroom.
Paul and his family moved into a quiet subdivision in Durango about a month and a half ago.
Federal authorities say they seized C-4 military explosives from his home, along with grenades and night-vision goggles.
Paul is accused of working with a Navy SEAL and a Las Vegas man to sell the weapons.
