The former head of the emergency department at Children’s Hospital is seeking to delay the criminal cases against him so that he can resume treatment for drug addiction.

Dr. Louis Hampers faces a 655-count prescription fraud indictment that alleges he forged prescriptions over a period of several years as well as a misdemeanor harassment charge in Denver.

Hampers is seeking court permission to return to a Virginia drug and alcohol treatment center.

Although Hampers, who is free on bond, has not been given permission to travel out of Colorado, a federal judge has delayed his prescription fraud trial until March 4. On Friday, a Denver judge delayed his harassment case until Jan. 6.

He stands accused of harassing a woman he met on the Internet in that case.
