DENVER—The field of possible candidates for Denver mayor is growing in the wake of Democrat John Hickenlooper’s win in the governor’s race.
Hickenlooper, the current mayor, was elected governor Tuesday. He has said he’ll stay on as mayor until his Jan. 11 inauguration to avoid a special election. Deputy Mayor Bill Vidal will then become acting mayor until the regular election in May.
Candidates who have officially announced plans to run are Councilman Doug Linkhart, city employee Danny Lopez and James Mejia, executive director of the Denver Preschool Program.
The Denver Post reports that people considering a bid include council members Michael Hancock and Carol Boigon and Cole Finegan, former city attorney.
