HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo.—Five people injured after an SUV crashed into a pet store in suburban Denver are reported in fair condition.

The Douglas County sheriff’s office says a Dodge Durango that had been parked outside the store in Highlands Ranch slammed through the front doors, injuring an employee and customers at about 1:20 p.m. Friday.

One of the five injured is a child. No names have been released.

A spokeswoman at Littleton Adventist Hospital tells The Denver Post that the people are in fair condition. One was previously reported as critical.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Cocha Heyden says the driver told officers the vehicle wouldn’t stop going backward. Investigators will try to determine if it malfunctioned.

None of the three adults and two children in the vehicle was injured.
