FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Colorado State University officials say more than 4,000 people have signed up to get free vaccines for meningococcal disease.

The Fort Collins Coloradoan reports that the vaccinations Friday are being offered for CSU students, employees and their family members from ages 2 to 29. Meningococcal disease causes bacterial meningitis and sepsis.

CSU student Christina Adame (Ah-Dom-aye) died last month from meningococcal sepsis. State health officials are recommending that all CSU students get the vaccine if they haven’t gotten it in the last three years.

The vaccines are being offered from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the CSU Student Recreation Center and walk-ins are accepted.
