For the record: BYU is 4-5, 3-2 in the Mountain West after a 55-7 home rout of hapless UNLV. BYU needs two wins in the remaining three (CSU, New Mexico and Utah) for bowl eligibility.
Streaking: BYU held its last four opponents (San Diego State, TCU, Wyoming and UNLV) to a combined minus-21 yards in the first quarter.
Who’s hot: Freshman running back Joshua Quezada scored three TDs against UNLV, the first three of his career.
Who’s not: BYU’s offense ranks 101st out of 120 FBS teams in scoring at 20.3 points a game.
Key stat: Jake Heaps became the first BYU true freshman quarterback to start in three wins.
FYI: Heaps, regarded in many recruiting circles as the top QB prospect in the nation last February, has played some catch-up with CSU true freshman Pete Thomas. Both enrolled a semester early. . . . This is BYU’s final Mountain West road trip outside the state of Utah. CSU’s last win over BYU was in Provo in 2003. The current six-game losing streak is the longest since BYU’s 10-year domination from 1976-85. CSU lost 16 of 17 to BYU during a stretch when the Cougars dominated the Western Athletic Conference.
