DENVER—A Chicago businessman is tentatively scheduled to stand trial Jan. 3 for allegedly trying to hire a hit man to murder a business associate.
Brooks Kellogg pleaded not guilty last week to using interstate commerce facilities and mails in the commission of murder-for-hire and solicitation to commit a crime of violence.
The 72-year-old part-time resident of Steamboat Springs is accused of traveling from Chicago to Denver last month to arrange the murder of Stephen Bunyard of Destin, Fla., who settled a lawsuit in a soured land deal with Kellogg and his company for $2.5 million.
Another lawsuit for $500,000 is pending in court.
Kellogg is being held in jail without bond.
