COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A 52-year-old man faces life in prison after being convicted in the rape and murder of his infant grandson.
The Gazette reported that a Colorado Springs jury handed down the verdict against Willie B. Allmon Wednesday following two days of deliberations.
Allmon, a registered sex offender, must be given life in prison without parole when he is sentenced Dec. 2 in the death of 8-month-old Isiah Melik.
Allmon’s daughter Felicia and her baby went to stay with her father after she had disagreements with her mother. Isiah died in May 2009 after she left him in her father’s care. Doctors said his skull was shattered and he had been sexually assaulted.
Allmon’s public defenders suggested Felicia could have caused the fractures.
