Police in Fountain are looking for a man who impersonated an officer.
A Fountain woman told police that at about 11:45 a.m. Wednesday there was a “loud pounding on her door” in the 800 block of South Santa Fe Avenue, according to the Fountain Police Department.
When the victim answered a man dressed like a police officer said her son had “just got caught breaking into a trailer,” according to a media release.
The woman told the imposter that her son was in school, and she asked the man who he was.
“He replied that he is a police officer in the area,” according to the release.
The victim told the man she didn’t believe him, and she was going to call Fountain police “to confirm her son’s whereabouts.”
The police imposter left and got into a long, white, older-model car, possibly a Chevrolet Caprice or a Ford Crown Victoria, with a spot light on the driver’s side, and drove off.
Police described the suspect as a “dark” skinned man, possibly “Hispanic or Italian,” about six-feet tall with short black hair and short facial hair, perhaps two-day beard stubble. The imposter was wearing a dark shirt and pants, similar to the uniform worn by Fountain police. The man also wore a police duty belt with a hand-cuff case, pepper spray and a baton.
