BOULDER, Colo.—The dean of the University of Colorado’s journalism school is stepping down amid uncertainty about the future of the program.
Paul Voakes announced this week he would leave the post next summer. Voakes is tenured and says he plans to remain on the CU faculty.
CU said in August it would explore the possibility of terminating the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and consider what a new “information and communication technology” program would look like.
Officials cited sweeping changes in the media.
The journalism school had about 650 undergraduate and 85 graduate students at the time of the announcement. The university said all would be able to complete their degrees regardless of what happens to the program.
