FORT MORGAN, Colo.—The head of the Morgan County Ambulance Service says it’s losing money despite cutbacks and changes.
The Fort Morgan Times reports that Bob Walter, director of the service, told county commissioners this week the service can last only a year or so longer as a self-supporting operation.
Walters says Morgan County residents will have to decide whether they want a service that simply transports the sick and injured to a hospital, or whether they want ambulances staffed with paramedics who can provide care on the way.
Walters says each ambulance run costs an average of $580, but the service is reimbursed an average of about $420 from insurance companies and government programs.
He says the service averages six calls a day.
