SINGAPORE — Adam Scott shot a 2-under 69 on Saturday to take a one-stroke lead into the final round of the Singapore Open.
Scott, who won the event in 2005 and 2006, had a 54-round total of 14-under 199.
Defending champion Ian Poulter (68) of England and Kang Kyung- nam (67) of South Korea were tied for second place. In fourth place, another stroke behind, was U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland.
Phil Mickelson fell off the pace with a 75 that left him 12 strokes behind the leaders in the jointly sanctioned Asian and European tours event.
• Roland Thatcher remains on track in an improbable bid to keep his PGA Tour card, shooting a 2-under 70 at the Children’s Miracle Network Classic Lake Buena Vista, Fla., to take a four-stroke lead over Chris Stroud (70) into the final round.
Thatcher began the week 179th on the money list and needs to win or finish alone in second at the season’s final tournament to vault into the top 125 — the cutoff for full status — to retain his card.
• Suzann Pettersen moved into position for her first LPGA Tour victory of the year, shooting a 3-under 69 to take a one-stroke lead at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Pettersen, who has 10 top-five finishes this season, was at 12-under, one shot better than Ai Miyazato (68), Stacy Lewis (69), In-Kyung Kim (68) and Karine Icher (68).
• Tiger Woods failed to make up any ground at the Australian Masters in Melbourne, shooting an even-par 71 that left him 10 shots behind leader Adam Bland (70—202).
Edwards wins Nationwide race
AVONDALE, Ariz. — Carl Edwards won the Nationwide Series race at Phoenix International Raceway, leading 153 laps in claiming his second straight win.
Edwards had total control of the race after winning last week at Texas, and now has four Nationwide victories this season.
Kevin Harvick finished second and was followed by Joey Logano, Brad Keselowski and Reed Sorenson.
• Greg Anderson wrapped up his fourth pro stock season championship and first since 2005, qualifying fourth at the Auto Club NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif.
Larry Dixon (top fuel), Ashley Force Hood (funny car), Allen Johnson (pro stock) and Eddie Krawiec (pro stock motorcycle) topped qualifying.
• Sebastian Vettel put pressure on championship leader Fernando Alonso by taking pole position for today’s season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in the United Arab Emirates.
Vonn sixth is slalom opener
LEVI, Finland — Marlies Schild of Austria won the first women’s World Cup slalom of the season, edging Olympic champion Maria Riesch of Germany by 0.03 seconds.
Schild was fifth after the first run and trailed Riesch by 0.81 seconds, then had the fastest time on the second leg. Tanja Poutiainen of Finland was third. Vail’s Lindsey Vonn was sixth.
