Today, Christie Morris feels like the luckiest woman in the world.
She was chosen in September to be one of Oprah’s “Ultimate Viewers” for a special show to be taped today. So she’s in Chicago with a pal, ready for the best day ever. It could be aired Friday or Monday.
What has Morris excited (she’s the former wife of impresario Chuck Morris) is that this show could be Oprah’s “favorite things” show, the legendary annual hour where she starts handing out her favorite things as gifts to the audience.
Morris became an “Ultimate Viewer” by writing in to the show in August explaining how Oprah has affected her life and the lives of so many women. “She always taught us that we should have something bigger in our lives. And we should pay it forward.”
Morris said she was given a lot of rules: no touching Oprah, no handing letters to Oprah, no speaking to Oprah unless she speaks to you, no wearing logos on your clothes, no wearing white.
Morris might be under a gag order when she comes home tonight, but she plans a viewing party at her place of employment, Downing Street Bar and Grill, when it airs.
“I am really, really excited,” she says.
In fashion.
This year’s Dec. 4 Holiday Fashion Show for Volunteers of America is taking over three locations. Organizer Tobie Orr just has to move around.
The show/party starts with a VIP reception at 6 p.m. at EXDO. “Look for an art-deco, holiday-glam theme,” says Orr. Seating from $40 general admission to $500 for a four-top cabana table, $100 for front row. Threads this year come from three fashion shacks: Garbarini, Lawrence Covell and Mariel.
The show starts at 8:30 p.m., and Orr expects people to split after the style parade and head to the Four Seasons (via shuttle if you want) for a VIP after-party. When it gets a little later, the guests will go to an after-after-party at Suite 200. Go to for tix.
Tilted.
The Tilted Kilt has been rockin’ on the 16th Street Mall since it opened last year — so everyone’s invited to its first birthday party Wednesday, and 15 percent of sales proceeds go to the Santa Claus Shop. Owner Mark Voss says the concept (short kilts, tight tops) is so popular here he’s looking to expand to Cherry Creek, DTC, Colorado Springs and Fort Collins.
City spirit.
Zagat’s edition of “America’s Top Restaurants 2011” just hit my desk, and here’s the lineup for the very top-ranked Colorado troughs: Fruition, Frasca, Matsuhisa, Splendido and Mizuna. . . . If you see a traveling light show on a ’58 Caddy, it’s Lonnie Hanzon riding around promoting his upcoming Hudson Gardens Holiday Light Show opening Friday. . . . Sez who: “Aren’t we forgetting the true meaning of Christmas? You know, . . . the birth of Santa.” Bart Simpson
