The Pedal Power Snowshoe Adventure Series kicks off its five-event schedule for 2010-11 on Saturday in the rarified air of Tennessee Pass.
The Tennessee Pass Kickoff Classic 5-miler gets underway at 10 a.m. out of the Tennessee Pass Nordic Center at Ski Cooper, near Leadville. Registration is $20 in advance (in person or online) and $25 at the race start.
Begun in 1995 as an informal charity fundraiser, Colorado’s oldest competitive snowshoe race series is known for attracting top nordic endurance athletes from across the region and still operates as a nonprofit. Other scheduled races include the Eagle-Vail Holiday 10K on Dec. 18 and the Colorado State Championship on Jan. 15.
Two winter triathlons — snowshoeing, snow biking and skate skiing — are on the calendar for Jan. 29 and Feb. 19.
