SUVA, Fiji — A magnitude-6.9 earthquake shook Papua New Guinea today, the U.S. Geological Survey said. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
The agency said the quake struck about 20 miles beneath the ocean floor, near the island province of New Britain.
Earlier today, a magnitude- 6.1 earthquake struck in waters near Fiji, 115 miles east- northeast of Lambasa, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre website. The temblor struck at 4:01 a.m. local time at a depth of 9.4 miles.
