The 9News Parade of Lights will cast a twinkle of holiday glitter and cheer across downtown Denver twice this weekend, spreading cheer, blocking streets and temporarily suspending light-rail service along the route.

During the parade, streets a block off the route will be closed. Light-rail service on the H, F and D lines will be stopped on Stout and California streets between 14th and 18th streets.

The parade starts at 8 tonight and 6 p.m. Saturday in front of the City and County Building at West 14th Avenue and Bannock Street, winding around the core of the city with Santa at the tail.

This year’s lineup includes the 28-foot-tall penguin balloon, Major Waddles; the Colorado Ballet’s rolling rendition of “The Nutcracker,” and the 30-foot-long carousel float, a winter garden with a frozen-flower carousel at its center.

Marching bands from eight Colorado high schools will provide the music, with the Colorado State University marching band leading the way.

Stand on the street and watch the holiday glow flow past for free, or pony up $18 at Dick’s Sporting Goods or for a spot in the grandstands in Civic Center.
