A Peyton man was critically injured today in a fire that destroyed his home and injured another person, fire officials said.
Bobbie Brzezinski said her father-in-law, Ron Brzezinski, lived alone in the modular home and occasionally used a wheelchair. He had burns on his shoulder and back, but was conscious when he was taken away by medical helicopter, she said.
The blaze may have begun as a grass fire and spread to the home at 19950 Oasis Ave. High winds increased the risk the fire would spread to nearby homes and prompted firefighters to ask neighbors to voluntarily evacuate.
