A morning fire in Castle Rock forced the evacuation of a townhouse complex, though the flames were contained to a single unit.
The Castle Rock Fire Department responded to the fire in the 1000 block of Highland Bluff Drive about 9:15 a.m. today after a homeowner returned from dropping her children at school and found the kitchen filled with smoke, according to Kristin Accola, spokeswoman for the town of Castle Rock.
About 20 firefighters contained the fire, but the damage made the structure uninhabitable. The estimated cost of the damage is $30,000 to $50,000, according to Accola.
Fire investigators believe the fire started in the kitchen although the cause remains under investigation.
The woman who called 911 was examined for smoke inhalation. The Red Cross is working on relocation arrangements for the family of five.Howard Pankratz: 303-954-1939 or hpankratz@denverpost.com.
