A man has been arrested in Missouri in connection with the 2005 murder of Aspen Park resident Patrick Housand.
The suspect is identified as Sheldon Lee Herrington, 38, who was Housand’s former son-in-law, according to Jacki Kelly, spokeswoman for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Kelley said that late last week, investigators from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office traveled to Taney County, Mo. to arrest Herrington.
Herrington was hiding in the home of a friend.
In 2005, neighbors of the 70-year-old Housand speculated that he had been killed by a mountain lion.
However, investigators from Jefferson County and the Colorado Division of Wildlife, called to Housand’s home on May 28, 2005, quickly determined that Housand was not mauled by a mountain lion but had been murdered.
Housand’s body was discovered outside near the garage by Housand’s wife.
Kelley said that investigators have continuously worked tips and leads in the case.
She said that in recent weeks, investigators acquired critical new information which led to the issuance of an arrest warrant for Herrington.
Kelley said Herrington will be brought back to Colorado where he will face charges of first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, first-degree burglary and second-degree burglary.
Herrington is being held without bond.Howard Pankratz: 303-954-1939 or hpankratz@denverpost.com.
