CLEVELAND—The Cleveland Indians have signed catcher Paul Phillips to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Phillips played in 12 games last season for the Rockies. He spent the rest of the season at Triple-A Colorado Springs, where he batted .238 with 10 RBIs in 34 games. The 33-year-old has a .262 career major league average and has also played with Kansas City and the Chicago White Sox. The Royals drafted him out of Alabama in 1995.
