One of Broomfield’s most visible drinking establishments will close for good Saturday as the city and state work toward completion of the 120th Avenue Connection project.

Red’s Pub, which has been prominently located at 7330 W. 120th Ave. for the past 5½ years, will pour its last pint Saturday night. The bar’s owner, Red Nikkel, last week finalized a contract with the Colorado Department of Transportation, selling the property for an undisclosed amount.

Nikkel, whose pub employs seven people, said he has been searching for a suitable replacement location but has not found any prospects.

“We’ve had a lot of good times in this place,” Nikkel said at his bar Tuesday afternoon. “I’m going to miss the place, and the regulars, and the help. We’ve been like a family here.” Joe Rubino, Daily Camera
