University of Denver senior guard Britteni Rice scored 18 points Saturday to reach the 1,000-point milestone in the Pioneers’ 64-27 win over San Jose State (0-9) at Magness Arena.

DU (6-4), which has won three straight, led 31-6 with five minutes to play in the first half.

Wyoming 75, Westminster (Utah) 57

LARAMIE — The Cowgirls (6-2) led only 44-43 at halftime against the Griffins (12-2), one of the top NAIA teams, but coach Joe Legerski was happy with UW’s second-half defense that held Westminster to 14 points.

TEMPE, Ariz. — The Rams (5-4) turned the ball over too many times — 23 — and lost despite shooting slightly better than the Sun Devils (6-2).

Kim Mestdagh led CSU with 19 points.

Nebraska 66, N. Colorado 53

LINCOLN, Neb. — Victoria Timm scored 16 points off the bench for the Bears (3-7), who could never quite catch the Cornhuskers (8-1) in the second half after falling behind 30-19.

Metro St. 72, Chadron St. 44

The Roadrunners (8-0, 4-0 RMAC) are off to the best start in school history after the win at Auraria Events Center. Cassondra Bratton recorded her second straight double-double and fifth of her career with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Metro held CSC to 28.3 percent shooting.

Area men

Portland 71, Denver 64

Nemanja Mitrovic scored 18 points, including two of his five 3-pointers in the closing minutes, and Portland (8-3) held off Denver (2-8) at Magness Arena.

Chase Hallam led DU with 24 points, and Andrew Hooper and Travis Hallam added 11 points each.

Air Force 73, N.C. Central 56

AIR FORCE ACADEMY — Evan Washington had 15 points and eight rebounds, and Taylor Broekhuis added 14 points and seven rebounds for the Falcons (6-2). Tom Fow and Taylor Stewart each scored 10 points for Air Force, which won its fourth straight home game.

The Falcons held the Eagles (4-4) to 35 percent shooting.

Broekhuis hit an open 3-pointer to get the AFA lead to 55-39, but the resilient Eagles closed the gap to 59-50 with 5:44 left.

Metro St. 82, Chadron St. 63

Reggie Evans scored a season-high 26 points at Auraria Events Center to lead the Roadrunners (6-2, 3-1 RMAC) to their third straight win, and Jonathan Morse recorded his fourth career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
