WASHINGTON — Veteran diplomat Richard Holbrooke, who is a special envoy on the Afghanistan war, remained in critical condition Sunday after surgery to fix a tear in his aorta. President Barack Obama said in a statement that he was praying for Holbrooke’s recovery.
