FRISCO — A Democratic vacancy committee Sunday picked Summit County’s school superintendent to replace Rep. Christine Scanlan in the state House.

Meanwhile, another vacancy committee today will elect a replacement for outgoing Sen. Chris Romer, D-Denver.

Millie Hamner of Dillon has lived in Colorado’s mountain community since moving to Eagle County in 1978 to teach elementary school. She will represent House District 56.

“Eagle, Summit and Lake Counties are critical to the economic revival of Colorado,” she said in a news release after her appointment.

“I will work on behalf of our local economy by fighting for scarce transportation dollars and keeping the Western Slope a beautiful place that continues to attract visitors from all over the globe.”

Scanlan is resigning effective Dec. 31 to work as chief legislative lobbyist for Gov.-elect John Hickenlooper.

Romer is resigning at the end of the year to run for Denver mayor. A vacancy committee meets tonightat South High School to pick his successor.
