Denver publicist Jim Guttau is all about parties with a purpose, so every time he celebrates a birthday he throws a bash that raises money for a favorite charity. This year, for his 33rd, Guttau reserved the Block Building in Denver’s RiNo neighborhood for the Guttau Goodwill Gala and asked the 125 attendees to dress in outfits purchased from one of the 11 thrift shops that Goodwill Industries of Denver operates in the metro area. Be creative, he advised, because there’d be a runway for everyone to show off such fabulous finds as the purple sequinned pageant gown that Ania Iwaniczko found at Goodwill’s 4160 S. Broadway store. In addition to bolstering sales at Goodwill outlets, the party also raised $1,500 in cash donations made the night of the party.
