DENVER—United Airlines says a plane bound from Denver to Las Vegas returned to Denver’s airport after the crew detected a smell in the cabin.

Flight 243 returned to the gate at Denver International Airport about 45 minutes after it took off on Monday. United spokesman Rahsaan (Rah-san) Johnson said maintenance crews were checking the Airbus A230 to see what caused the smell.

The plane’s 144 passengers were put on another plane and left Denver for Las Vegas at 11:20 a.m., about three hours after first taking off.
