FORT CARSON, Colo.—A Fort Carson combat support unit is officially marking its return from Afghanistan and getting a new commander.

The 68th Combat Support Sustainment Battalion will formally unfurl its flag on Thursday at Fort Carson. It’s called an uncasing ceremony because the flag is removed from the case it was stored in for the trip back from overseas.

The battalion was in Afghanistan for about a year.

After the uncasing ceremony, Lt. Col. Alanna M. Cook will take over command of the battalion from Col. Tomas A. Rivard. Rivard has been commander of the battalion for 2 1/2 years.
