PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo.—A new commander has formally taken over at the Air Force Space Command at its headquarters in Colorado.
A change-of-command ceremony was held Wednesday at Peterson Air Force Base with Gen. William Shelton succeeding Gen. C. Robert Kehler (KAY-luhr).
Kehler is taking over the U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska.
The Space Command oversees military and civilian GPS programs, other military satellites, launches of military satellites, Air Force cyber operations and other programs.
Its new commander is a 1976 graduate of the Air Force Academy. Shelton’s most recent previous assignment was assistant vice chief of staff of the Air Force and director of air staff at the Pentagon.
