Gary, Watts and Tooley leave Wyoming program.

Sophomore strong safety Shamiel Gary and sophomore place-kicker Ian Watts are among three players who have left the Wyoming football program.

Watts was UW’s starting place-kicker, and Gary started the first 10 games of the 2010 season.

Coach Dave Christensen said Watts is academically ineligible and Gary has chosen not to return to the team. Watts scored 46 points last season, and Gary was second on the team in tackles with 94.

Sophomore wide receiver David Tooley, who did not play last year after being suspended indefinitely early in the 2010 season, also will not return.

Christensen said he would not comment on the three players other than to wish them well.

Reid will compete in the junior worlds in Otepaa, Estonia, Jan. 25-31.

Eagles lose fight-filled game.

The Allen Americans scored three goals in the first 11 minutes of the game and went on to a 5-3 win over the Colorado Eagles at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland.

Steve Haddon scored on a power play with four seconds left in the first, and Riley Nelson scored with 4:24 gone on the second to bring Colorado to within a goal at 3-2. Jarrett Lukin answered for Allen about four minutes later to restore a two-goal lead, then the Americans scored the first two goals of the third.

The game was testy, evidenced by eight fighting majors and two each fighting instigator and fighting intervenor penalties — in the first period. Colorado’s Dan Sullivan was called for two fighting majors and two fighting instigators in the first.
