DENVER—Sen. Michael Bennet plans to visit schools and classrooms across the country to listen to ideas about how to improve public education.
The former Denver schools superintendent kicked off his school innovation tour on Wednesday by visiting Lincoln Elementary School in Colorado Springs.
Bennet will likely play a big role in the education debate coming up in the Senate. Congress will consider changes to the 10-year-old No Child Left Behind Act.
Bennet has said he’d like students to take fewer tests, and increase incentives for the best-rated teachers to make education a more competitive field.
The school he visited is receiving part of a $15.2 million federal grant to recruit and retain teachers and increase their effectiveness.
