DENVER—Democrats aren’t the only ones taking office Tuesday in Colorado. Two Republicans elected to statewide office for the first time took their oaths, too, tripling the number of statewide Republican officials.
Republican Scott Gessler was sworn in Tuesday as secretary of state and will oversees elections. And Walker Stapleton took the oath as treasurer. They join Republican Attorney General John Suthers, who took the oath for his second term.
They were sworn in by the state’s new chief justice, Michael Bender, as the temperature hovered around 10 degrees on the West Steps of the Capitol.
The new officials say they’re planning small inaugural festivities of their own.
