Denver will slowly begin to thaw today after a spell of subfreezing temperatures.
Today’s high is expected to hit 36, after two consecutive days without getting above freezing. Tonight’s low is forecast to be 19 degrees.
Thursday, high temperatures may near the low 50s.
Tuesday morning, the low dropped to 2 below at 8:27 a.m., and wind chills in many areas made it feel colder.
On average, Denver can expect seven days with high temperatures below 32 degrees in January, in what the National Weather Service reports is the coldest month in Denver.
And while high temperatures slowly will begin to creep above freezing, it is not uncommon to see temperatures drop again below freezing nearly every night.
While January is known for its cold, it is not known for snow, as it is also, on average, the second-driest month of the year.
So far this month, Denver has recorded 6.8 inches of snowfall, compared with 2.4 inches for the month through this day last year.
The average snowfall in Denver for the entire month of January is 7.7 inches.
The next possible storm front is expected in Denver by Saturday night, when the city has a slight chance of snow showers and a low for that night of 27.
