Saturday was good for Abraham Lincoln boys basketball past and present. How good?

The Lancers, behind 21 points from Dominic Williams, defeated Doherty 58-51 in a Class 5A nonleague game. On the same day, former Lancer Jorge Gutierrez scored 21 points as California won 65-61 at Arizona State. Another former Lancer, Francisco Cruz, made an acrobatic 8-footer from the left side off a missed shot at the buzzer to lift Wyoming over visiting New Mexico 67-66.

Lancers coach Vince Valdez almost couldn’t control himself. “It was a great day for Lincoln basketball,” he said.
