A dog was hit by a car and killed Friday as it fled a burning home in Jefferson County.
Neighbors called West Metro Fire about 11:45 a.m. when they saw smoke coming from the home, at 12460 W. Quincy Ave.
Fire officials opened the door to fight the fire and look for anyone who may have been trapped inside. A dog ran out into the street and was hit by a car on a nearby highway.
Officials said firefighters did rescue a snake, three lizards, three cats and two other dogs. No people were in the home.
