Winners of the Golden Globe Awards were announced Sunday night, and I found it amazing how many of the nominated TV shows and movies had Denver themes.
For instance . . .
“Inception” — A film about the dreams of Nuggets fans, and how Carmelo Anthony escaped them.
“Dexter” — A forensic bloodstain spatter analyst moonlights as a serial killer . . . while hitting .260 with 14 triples.
“Red” — The story of a long-lost zone, once visited by the Broncos.
“127 Hours” — Clocking Todd Helton from first base to third.
“Tangled” — The harrowing tale of a young boy caught inside Troy Tulowitzki’s mullet.
“Mad Men” — The story of boozed-up men dressed alike . . . leaving Invesco Field at Mile High after losing to the Raiders by 109 points.
“The Illusionist” — With his “SportsCenter” dunks, Nuggets guard J.R. Smith makes fans believe he’s a heady, all-around player.
“Animal Kingdom” — Famed zoologist Jack Hanna thought he had seen it all. Then he took on his toughest challenge: deciphering the neck tattoo on “The Birdman.”
“Easy A” — Avalanche alternate captain Paul Stastny earns a reputation with the ladies.
“The Social Network” — A film about a misunderstood young genius, with a penchant for hoodies, who lets power get to his head.
“Nurse Jackie” — Irate after an abysmal season by the Broncos’ secondary, cornerback Chevis Jackson enrolls in nursing school.
“The Tourist” — Lost on the road, the tale of Dan Hawkins’ tenure with the CU Buffs.
“The King’s Speech” — The story of LeBron James making his infamous announcement about his “decision” and how it affected the Nuggets’ Melo, who ultimately canceled the pending VH1 reality series about his own decision, which had this working title: “La La and Melo take their talents to Newark.”
“Hung” — The story of a Tim Tebow pass as it floats in the air toward double coverage.
And finally, the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in film: Steve Scarnecchia.
