AUSTIN, Texas — Missy Franklin, 15, of Regis Jesuit High School beat Olympian Katie Hoff in the 200- meter backstroke final in 55.48 at the Austin Grand Prix on Sunday. Franklin also won the 200 IM and the 200 backstroke earlier.

“I’m pretty exhausted,” said Franklin, who won five events over the weekend and finished the meet No. 1 overall with 28 points, the number Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps had combined.

Lochte beat Phelps in the 200- meter individual medley. Lochte finished in 1 minute, 59.26 seconds. Eric Shanteau edged Phelps to finish second in 2:01:13. Phelps was third.

Brent Hayden won the 100 freestyle in 49.91. Ricky Berens finished second, and Lochte was third. Phelps won Heat B of that race in 50.9 seconds.

The Grand Prix is a seven-meet series, and after the final event, the swimmer with the most total points from all seven meets earns $20,000.

Franklin said that if she were the winner, she’d turn down the check in order to stay eligible for college.
